Football returns to the top 10

Elon University Football (5-2, 3-1) moved to No. 8 in the country in the STATS Top-25 poll and No. 6 in the FCS Coaches Poll following their win on Saturday over the University of Richmond Spiders 38-28. This is the third time this season that Elon has cracked the top 10 this season.

Football bounces back, beats Richmond

Elon football (5-2, 3-1) got back into the win column against a struggling University of Richmond (3-5, 1-4) at Rhodes Stadium on Saturday. An unfamiliar looking Phoenix squad was able to prevail in a seesaw contest that went down to the wire.

PREVIEW: Elon hosts Richmond

Elon football (4-2, 2-1) is taking on University of Richmond (3-4, 1-3) on Saturday, Oct. 20 during Inauguration Weekend in front of their home fans at Rhodes Stadium. The Phoenix is clocking in before the game at No. 11 in the nation in both the FCS Coaches Poll and the STATS FCS Top-25. Elon suffered its first FCS loss of the season last week while on the road against the University of Delaware.

Elon football stumbles to No. 11 in the nation

Elon University football (4-2, 2-1) fell to No. 11 in both the FCS Coaches Poll and in the STATS FCS Top 25. This comes on the heels of the team’s 28-16 loss – its first FCS loss of the year – against the University of Delaware.

Football falls on the road to Delaware

No. 5 Elon Football (4-2) fell to the University of Delaware (4-2) on Saturday 28-16. Elon was hampered by injuries that could prove to be much more costly than losing this game. This loss comes just one week after beating James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia.

Elon offensive lineman Ikenna Nwokeji just became the 12th Phoenix to sign a contract to the NFL when he signed on with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Saturday, April 28.

Elon football holds signing day event

On the evening of National Signing Day, the Elon University football team held a signing day reception in the Walker Room of Alumni Field House. Head coach Curt Cignetti talked about the recruits that he and his team will be welcoming in the fall and took questions from the fans in attendance.

Elon falls to Furman in first round of FCS playoffs

A blocked extra point was the deciding factor Saturday as the Elon University football team fell in the first round of the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) to Furman University, 28-27. In a game that witnessed three lead changes and eight touchdowns, No. 15 Phoenix was upset by the No. 22 Paladins in Rhodes Stadium.

Elon football is playoffs bound

Following an 8-3 (6-2 in conference) season, the Elon University football team is playoffs bound.  The Phoenix will play host to the Furman University Paladins on Saturday, Nov. 25, the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) playoffs committee announced during the selection show on ESPNU this morning.

Top ranked James Madison defeats Elon, wins CAA title

After losing to James Madison University 31-3 Saturday, the Phoenix walked to its locker room with lowered heads in its final regular season game. And now, with the Football Championship Subdivision playoffs looming in the near future, instead of asking, "Why not us," Elon (8-3, 6-2) is wondering what will happen next.  With Elon losing 31-3 to the reigning national champions, Elon now must look to the postseason.

Football team looking to tighten screws with JMU, playoffs on horizon

The Elon University football team enters this weekend with a loss in its rearview mirror. It is the first time its been in that situation since the first week of September. With a 16-6 loss at the University of New Hampshire on Nov. 11 in the books and a matchup against No. 1 James Madison University coming up this weekend, the momentum may be slowing.
